Acer rubrum, red maple, is not called red for no reason; the colour is visible in all aspects. It all starts with red flowers that appear in April. On top of that, the leaf stalks and twigs are red, and, in autumn, the foliage turns from green to bright red to crimson. The Acer rubrum family is very extensive, and within this range, the Karpick (Femrite Nursery) selection is a good species for use in public green spaces. This tree honours Frank E. Karpick, former landscaper of the city of Buffalo in New York.

Acer rubrum 'Karpick' is a male selection, which means this tree doesn't bear fruit. So there is no inconvenience with falling fruits in the public green space. Moreover, the Karpick has other, exceptional characteristics that add to its suitability for public green spaces: a very narrow, columnar crown, which widens a little when maturing, but remains narrow. The narrow red maple reaches an height of 12-14 m and a width of 6 m. Karpick does not tolerate (onshore) wind and its growth will stagnate in calcareous soil.

The autumn colouration stands out, as it changes from bright yellow to orange red. This can lag behind in dryer soil. The leaves are bright green, and the twigs are red.

A fantastic tree for use in narrow streets; little inconvenience with falling fruit, and a magnificent autumn colouration.
