The upper side is shiny dark green, the underside light blue/green. Flowers at the end of April on the bare, ageing wood with dark pink to violet pink flowers. Later accompanied by brown seed pods of 5-10 cm long. Attractive park tree in sheltered, sunny locations. Can also be planted in larger gardens.
