Gymnocladus dioica - Origin: Central and Eastern of the United States. The Kentucky coffee trees is a15-20 m high tree with a loose wide and irregularly shaped crown. Thick, irregular branches with large leaf scars. Young twigs are grey to greyish blue. When maturing, the bark is deeply (net-shaped) grooved. Large, bipinnate leaf, 80-100 cm long, dark green. Flowers in inconspicuous, greenish, slightly hanging plums with a length of approx. 25 cm. After flowering the tree develops beautiful husky pods with lengths of approximately 20-30 cm. Transparent crown. Yellow autumn colouring. Slow grower. Park tree for well-drained soils.
