This crossbreed of Magnolia veitchii and Magnolia liliflora ‘Nigra’ is a so-called Gresham hybrid. During the 1960s, Todd Gresham developed various Magnolias in California. Gresham’s objective was large flowers.

The Magnolia 'Heaven Scent' blooms beautifully in spring (April/ May), and, as the name suggests, this Magnolia produces a divine smell. The soft-pink to pink-purple flowers are tulip-shaped, about 10 cm in size, and they smell amazingly. Pay attention to the darker line on the outside of the nine sepals (a magenta band on the outside). The reddish-green, knobbly fruits appear later. The large, oval, dark-green-pointed leaves turn yellow in autumn.

Magnolia ‘Heaven Scent’, stays rather narrow, about 4 to 6 m wide, with a final height of 10 to 12 m. The Magnolia grows on humid and well-drained acidic or neutral soils of any type. Direct sunlight is not a problem, and the tree requires little to no trimming. Because of its narrow shape, the Magnolia ‘Heaven Scent’ is very suitable for somewhat narrow spaces, but it will also look good in parks. It is a beautiful showpiece in spring.
