Malus trees steel the show two times per year; in the spring with their beautiful blossoms and in autumn with shiny red fruits. Malus 'Madonna' is a double white flowering crabapple. This American selection (1987) is also known as Malus 'Mazam'.

In its youth the Malus 'Madonna' has a compact crown, initially narrow, later growing wider. Height up to 6 m, width up to 3.5 m. Its leaves turn from bronze green to dark green. Malus 'Madonna' flowers very early and abundantly with large double white flowers that open slowly but remain on the tree longer than is common to most crabapples. Fruits 12-13 mm, shiny with a red bloom, very long remaining. Malus 'Madonna' is very healthy and disease-resistant. Requires permeable and slightly acidic soil types and a location in the full sun.

Malus 'Madonna' is a beautiful, hardy crabapple for public and private gardens. Can also be planted as an avenue tree on open green verges in sheltered, sunny locations, if in its youth the the lower branches are pruned in time.
