This Silver linden selection, a Polish selection from Warsaw, has retained all good characteristics of this species: it can handle onshore wind very well, is frost resistant, and virtually free of any leaf afflictions. The Tilia tomentosa 'Varsaviensis' can handle air pollution, drought, and stays green for a long time, after which a beautiful yellow autumn colouration appears. The tree offers shelter for birds and is home to many insects.

When sprouting, the leaves are greyish green, like the Tilia tomentosa. Later on, the leaves turn green. As opposed to the normal tomentosa, it stays more greyish green. The autumn colouration of this linden is beautiful, from light yellow to dark yellow. In July, the yellow flowers bloom in hanging umbels.

The Tilia tomentosa ‘Varsaviensis’ is a tree that has a somewhat compact growth in its early years. Its shape is a little like a beehive, compact and narrow. Finally, it will reach a width of about 8-9 m, which is one of the reasons why it is very applicable to urban areas. This selection will reach a height of about 20 metres. The crown is semi-open/dense. The tree grows on virtually any soil but prefers loamy, nutritious, sandy soil.

A true must-have for urban areas: the super-healthy Tilia tomentosa ‘Varsaviensis’ is very resistant to drought and the city environment. It has inherited all good characteristics from the species and is virtually drip free. Unfortunately, it is rather unknown and therefore largely unused. A real must-have!
