From desolate dock to beautiful board walk

In autumn 2021, Nursery Udenhout delivered 34 columnar oaks in size 30-35 in Budapest, Hungary. A part of the dock alongside the Danube has been renovated and in the new plans a boardwalk was realised. The mayor of Budapest symbolically planted the first tree.

In the past, the area from the Margaretha bridge up to the parliament building was not accessible for pedestrians and cyclists. In fact, one could not get close to the Danube easily. The past few years more docks had been renovated and now citizen and tourists can make an long walk alongside the Danube.

The Quercus robur ‘Fastigiate Koster’ has a very narrow growth habit and accentuates the clean lines of the dock. The oak trees have a majestic appearance and draw attention to the parliament building. At the same time they provide shade and add a green accent to their surroundings. Many benches have been placed, where one can sit down and enjoy the beautiful view over the Danube all the way to the other side of the city.
